What is Search Engine Optimization?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing a Web sites presence in the organic listing of the search engines. The overall goal of search engine optimization is to increasingly drive qualified visitors to the Web site.
There are many different factors that could affect the rankings of a Web site but these factors could be categorized into two basic groups, on-site optimization and off-site optimization.
- On-site optimization - consists of making actual changes to the Web site such as content changes, title tag and Meta tag changes. On-site optimization also involves more complex challenges such as changes to the Web sites code or architecture.
- Off-site optimization- involves creating inbound links to your Web site. This can be done through reciprocal linking, directory submissions, article submissions, and even press releases.
Why should you consider Search Engine Optimization?
Search engine optimization is a long term approach that normally takes six to eight months to produce any significant results. So why is it worth investing in SEO if it takes so long to show results?
- For most Web sites SEO is the most cost effective SEM strategy because your SEO campaign could produce results years after the campaign has ended.
- SEO typically provides a higher conversion rate than other means of Internet advertising because many Internet users realize the links are occurring natural and are not paying to be there as with pay-per-click and banner advertisements.
